Software should work the way Africa actually works.
Most business software is built somewhere else, assuming reliable power and a fast connection. Spanwise starts from the opposite assumption — and builds up from there.
We kept watching schools run on paper because the software didn't trust their power supply
Every general-purpose business tool we looked at assumed you'd always be online. In much of Africa, that assumption breaks daily — a load-shedding schedule, a dead router, a bursar collecting fees somewhere with no signal at all. So the ledger stayed on paper, re-typed into a spreadsheet later, if at all.
Spanwise was built the other way around: offline is the default, not an edge case. Everything works first on the device in front of you, and settles to the cloud when it can.
Schools have the clearest, most universal need
Every school — regardless of size — needs to enrol students, collect fees, track attendance and produce report cards. That need doesn't change from one school to the next, which made it the right place to prove the platform before expanding into medical, retail and other businesses that trust us with the same reliability.
Three things we don't compromise on
Offline is not a fallback
If a feature doesn't work without internet, we don't consider it done. Load shedding is a normal Tuesday, not an outage to apologize for.
Built for how payment actually happens here
Mobile money isn't an add-on integration — it's treated as a primary payment method from day one, alongside cash.
A school shouldn't need to call us daily
If a school needs constant support to use Spanwise, that's our bug to fix, not a training problem to work around.
